The first concept one must be familiar with to understand bolt patterns is called bcd, for bolt circle diameter.if you lay one of your wheels on the ground and draw a circle that passes through the center of each of the lug holes, that is the bolt circle, and it only remains to measure the diameter of said circle.

In the same way we may calculate the following bolt pattern in inches, 5x5, to metric, which will be 5 times 25.4 = 127 (bolt pattern = 5x127). You have 4 lug (bolt) rims on your machine, but i will show 3 and 5 bolt rims also. If there is an even number of lugs:

Bolt patterns with an even number of lugs are measured from bolt center to bolt center while 5 lug bolt patterns are measured from the top of the upper lug to the center of the lower lug. Other common bolt patterns are 5×4.75 and 5×5. You use the number of bolts to determine the method necessary to measure your rim’s bolt pattern.

For example, a bolt pattern in metric, let's say 5x114.3, is equal to 5x4.5 in inches, because 114.3 divided with 25.4 = 4.5, easy, don't you agree? Pcd (pitch circle diameter) is the measurement of the diameter of the imaginary circle drawn through all of the wheel bolts or studs on a wheel. First, count the number of bolts on the wheel well, then measure the diameter of a circle that runs through the center of each bolt.

Measure from outer edge of one bolt hole (or stud) to outer edge of opposite bolt hole (or stud). When it comes to 6 bolt rim, the measurement process is also easy. Bolt pattern the measured diameter of an imaginary circle formed by the centers of the wheel lugs or bolt holes.

You measure from the back of one lug (skip to next lug as shown) and to the center of that lug. So if you see 4 1/2 inches, you have a 5 on 4 1/2 ( also 5×4.5 and 5×114.3) bolt pattern. Now, start at the outer wall of the bolt hole and measure all the way to the center of the other bolt hole.

Bolt circles are measured in both inches and millimeters, therefore you may hear a bolt pattern referred to as both (i.e. Bolt pattern or bolt circle is the diameter of an imaginary circle formed by the centers of the wheel lugs. Hence a 'pcd' of 5/120 means.

That measurement is your bolt pattern diameter. 4, 5, 6, or 8. The number you see will be the actual measurement of the bolt pattern.

For a 4 lug wheel, measure center to center of two holes directly across from each other. Buying rims with the correct offset is crucial to ensure the new rims don’t create steering problems or rub the inside of your fender well. That should get you your bolt pattern measurement.

Luckily, it’s actually really easy to measure a bolt pattern. Measure from the middle of one stud to the outside of the second stud (skipping a stud). Remember, the diameter of circle may vary.

5 or 7 (or 9) bolt pattern is trickier, so pay attention: Select 2 bolts that have a 1 bolt spacing on either side. To find your bolt pattern, measure the distance as accurately as possible and then find the corresponding bolt pattern in the conversion table below.

A wheel's pcd is usually displayed after the number of studs, separated by a slash. You can choose basically any hole to start with, but, you have to end up in the center of the opposite hole. So, you have to measure from the center of one hole and end up to the center of the opposite hole.

To measure your bolt pattern, pick the illustration below that represents your wheel stud pattern and measure as described below each illustration. Put those two numbers together, and bam!

Measure from the center of one lug holes to the. Measure from the center of one bolt hole (or stud if it is still one the bike) across the axle hole to the center of the bolt hole on the other side. You’ve got an accurate measurement of your bolt pattern.
